Natural makeup - some of my favorites

Finding natural, organic makeup is much easier today than it was a decade ago. So many companies are making cruelty free, phthalates free, vegan, gluten free, chemical free options.

With all the companies on the market, it's difficult to choose just one. I personally love a variety of products and choose according to my skin care needs and the ingredient list.

I also look for companies who recycle their packaging and encourage their clients to do the same. You can often send in empty containers for a free product, coupon or other incentive.

I love reusing many of my containers for other upcycling usages. (Stay tuned for a blog on reducing beauty product waste)!

Here are some of my favorite makeup artistry companies:

1) Bella Mari Foundations are made with No Paraben or Fragrance

  • With Calendula to soothe the skin

  • Not tested on animals, completely vegetarian

2) Well People (Clean Beauty Commitment Story | Well People) has a SUPER CLEAN, ECO conscious commitment, giving back to the earth wherever they can! I love their products and especially love that they stay far away from synthetic fillers, sulfates, preservatives, and fragrances.

In fact, there’s a list of over 1,700 ingredients that they won’t go near. I highly recommend the lipsticks and powders.

3) Ilia Beauty has a few more ingredients in their list than I usually like; however, they have a phenomenal recycling program. The owner Sasha Plavsic talks about her mission and brand in this video:

Here is the company mission statement:

All of our products are thoughtfully formulated without gluten, parabens, phthalates, petroleum, mineral oil, talc, BHA/BHT, propylene glycol, PEG, cyclomethicones, and chemical screens. We are cruelty-free and certified by Leaping Bunny.

4) Juice Beauty was founded by Karen Behnke, a serial wellness entrepreneur, who built one of the first corporate wellness companies in the country, developed a keen interest in personal care products with her first pregnancy at age 40. Experiencing hormonal changes and the beginning of lines in her skin, Karen set out to find healthy skincare solutions that delivered visible results. Every Organic Drop Feeds Your Skin.

I LOVE their foundations and SPF Mineral Moisturizer.

Depending on what service I am being hired for, I need to have a wide range of products in my pro kit. Many of my jobs require photo ready makeup and the majority of those brands are not natural or organic. This is always a challenge for me as I tend to only use natural and organic products for myself. Many Celebrities today are asking for more and more companies to find ways to reduce the use of toxins in beauty products. I am a huge advocate for that.

Even now, if I have to purchase photo friendly foundations, I make sure they are at least Vegan and Gluten Free and have the least amount of toxins possible. Some of my kit favorites are: RMS Beauty (Natural Makeup Ingredients | RMS Beauty), Tarte which is Gluten Free and Vegan and if it's TV/Film, Makeup For Ever which is Vegan but loaded with chemicals (ugh). Please Makeup For Ever come out with a better option!

I will always provide the clean option as an alternative first. If nothing else, it's important to educate each person in my chair to learn about the harsh chemicals in our products today and how they interact with our body chemistry (especially hormones).

My motto is to avoid chemicals whenever possible, but everything in life is a balancing act. Start small and work towards the bigger goal - which is to eliminate chemicals from your beauty and skincare routine.

Check out some of my work under Wholistic Beauty and let me personally shop for you! I will help you in eliminating some of the toxic products from your cosmetic bag and get you ready for some cleaner, beautiful alternatives.
